What am I looking at? This is a question I've thought about for several months and made changes. I can't watch TV shows that have language, or plant unpure thoughts. I've limited my social media, which steals my time. I would add these questions: What am I listening to and discussing? Proverbs 13:3 says, “Those who control their tongue will have a long life; opening your mouth can ruin everything.” Whether gossip or negative talk, words can be destructive to others and ourselves. Battling the flesh is a full-time job that requires continual work - never let our guard down or give an inch to the enemy.. Thanks for another thought-provoking walk.
Hi Donny another great prayer walk. What am I looking at? “ Stability “
When chaotic situations occur, only he can steady you with his assurance, teach you wisdom and self- control, and train you to remain faithful. Rather than allowing events to throw you off balance, he shows you how to stay in the center of his will and cling to his unwavering promises.
Where do you go for stability? When your world crumbles around you , where do you turn? Friend, God should not be your last resort. God is the only One who can truly bring you stability because he is completely consistent and unchanging- he stays steady, though the rest of the world may tremble. Stand on solid ground by setting your feet on the path God has for you. There, you will surely never be shaken.
God, what would I do without you to cling to? I praise you for your faultless character that I can always depend upon. Truly you are wonderful.
As I listened to his approach, Matthew 6:22 came to mind: "The eyes are the lamp of the body. If your eyes are good, your whole body will be luminous" I love this scripture for the poetry in it and also for the depth that exists in the teaching that Jesus gives us when using the analogy of the lamp.
I understand that Jesus tells us that our eyes illuminate our path and the quality of what we see affects our entire being.
The following verse closes his approach on this walk with a "golden key": "but if your eyes are evil, your whole body will be full of darkness..." Matthew 6:23
Thinking about myself in a practical way, what challenges me is my taste for rock n roll, there are songs that are great to listen to, but the lyrics... (in my adolescence I had many existential crises because of this... lol)
And speaking of music, I know it's not the focus of the walk, but what's in the lyrics of "you are my sunshine"?
Thanks for the walk and for choosing Heartland park, because of the name, I liked it and I thought it was kind of you.
Fantastic questions that I intend to do some soul-searching around. As you were asking them, another popped up for me. How am I stewarding the financial blessing God has trusted me with? I think often our spending follows our eyes and if we lust after things or experiences even if they aren't necessarily bad for us, how might we better use what we have to help, serve, share with others? Are we setting our hearts and minds on ourselves and what we want or on those around us, those in need, those with so much less? What kind of fruit is being produced by what I have set my focus on? Thanks for the challenge to examine my fruit!
How lovely are the feet of Him who brings good news. First off I saw I had to forgive you and myself for being human with faults and the ability to make mistakes. I have been short tempered lately finding fault with store people. They are doing their jobs the best they can and what they don’t need is me telling them where they are messing up. I was wearing one of your shirts the other day and realized that i didn’t want people to get the wrong impression of you so I caught myself. I was also representing God a double whammy to remind me I had not put on the full armor of God. I want to love people but I let my attitude reflect the wrong me. No matter how long we have followed Jesus we can always learn something new and find we need discipline.
Hello Donny! This prayer walk is another great one. Thank you for sharing and your willingness to be transparent. The two questions I take from this is "What am I looking at" and then "What am I doing with it?"
"What am I looking at? - I agree with what you said, Philippians 4:8 challenges us to examine the content of our thoughts and the focus of our actions. You're right, we need to take the time to self-reflect and take our thoughts and actions captive and bring them before God to help us acknowledge the areas where our hearts and minds may be misdirected. 2 Corinthians 10:5 reminds us to take all thoughts captive.
"What am I doing with it?" - This is the other question that intrigued me. Philippians 4:9 calls us to action. What are we doing with what we've learned, and the lessons we've received? Are we putting our faith into action in the way God is guiding us or is it merely head knowledge where pride may enter in to the picture? As you said, and I agree, we need to take all this and everything else to the Lord and allow Him to reveal any areas where we've been disobedient. This action empowers us by the Holy Spirit to learn from our sinful actions to live out our faith more intentionally and consistently as good stewards in service to Him and others.
Ultimately, both questions lead us back to the central point of completely surrendering our lives to Jesus above all else. With our eyes fixated on Him, we gain clarity on what truly matters and are reassured that God is the ONE in control and that He is working all things together for our good. (Romans 8:28). I wanted to share that I read Psalm 139:14 in one of my devotions this morning before watching this video. We are fearfully and wonderfully made, and we should honor and give Him all the glory and praise for that.
I pray each day for God to help me keep my eyes fixated on Him and let Him be the guide that leads the path ahead for me to clarify what I am doing with it. I want to "live a life so others can see the love I have for Christ in me." It's not about me, it's all about Him and doing it all for the glory of God. Thank you Donny for your faithfulness and being used as His vessel to encourage each of us. Continually praying for you my friend! God bless you and all of us!
What am I looking at? Time that is slipping away with incredible speed and I have so much left to do. I thought the question was so interesting. I rarely watch films unless they have a message. Podcasts are great again depending on the subject, the guest and the moderator. My music is classical with a bit of country and western and you thrown in. I like to be able to decipher the words. My books are up to date about the state of the world and presumably how we are going to get out of the mess it is in. I do like bios and the odd fluff novel. My time is so filled with helping family and friends who are in trouble right now, physical and mental. Too many! I guess it is my fault as I seem to draw those folks to me and I always spend whatever time is needed to help. Thank you for the wonderful walks which I really enjoy. It lifts my spirits and puts a song in my heart. You are so inspiring and kind. Continued blessings always.
This prayer walk really spoke to me. Thank you for being faithful to be challenged by God and to extend that challenge to us. It gave me a lot to think about. I’ve been careful for some time about what I watch, listen to etc, but as you were talking God brought to mind all the times I look at what I don’t have instead of all He has given me. I don’t want to keep sowing to that heart of discontentment, but be intentional to be grateful for all He has given. I love these prayer walks. I often get out of my house and actually walk while I listen. I need the time to disconnect from the grind and reconnect with Him. Your prayer walks are a piece of that :) thanks for sharing with us!
